With the state annually receiving some 54,000 reports of child abuse involving almost 82,000 children in New York City, the UFT has taken the lead in educating teachers about how to recognize suspected cases. The union has long provided the state-mandated two-hour workshop to members tuition-free. Now it’s also offering it online, combining reading, research and a moderated discussion.
